Bishop Advisory Site Council meets a minimum of four times each year. Advisory Site Council meetings are held in the Bishop Library Media Center.
The focus of the advisory site council is to discuss the day-to-day operation of Bishop. It is a requirement of Kansas Quality Performance Accreditation (QPA) that all school sites in Kansas have an active Advisory Site Couoncil. All interested parents and interested community members are welcome to attend and participate.
Intermediate student representatives also serve on the Bishop Advisory Site Council. Representatives for the 2007-2008 school year have been:
During each school year, Bishop Elementary School is involved in a school improvement process. As a school, we "strive" to be the best we can be. Parent input, advice, and involvement are essential. Any parent, student, teacher, staff member, business partner, and/or Bishop patron can participate on the Bishop Advisory Site Council. All need to be represented.
Over the past several years, the school improvement process, officially known as Quality Performance Accreditation (QPA) has given Bishop and the school community a clear focus and direction. A mission statement, school improvement goals, and implementation strategies for improvement have been in place. The process of school improvement is never ending. Continuous assessment and evaluations are completed.
The school improvement process is a two-way avenue of communication between home and school. Parents, teachers, staff members, and students are empowered to make a positive difference in schools. Bishop is a member of Advance ED the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NCA provides the "framework" for successfully completing the school improvement process.
Bishop Advisory Site Council is a major component of the school improvement process. The council meets no longer than an hour and one half. The Bishop Advisory Site Council strives to deal with day-to-day issues that have the potential of making a positive impact on teaching and learning. Needs of the current school year and beyond are addressed.
